Those early days built the foundation of Dr. Manrique’s medical profession and profoundly influenced the way she now cares for her patients. She lovingly recalls the people in the mountains of Valle who had so very little and no way to pay for medical care, “They would offer me, eggs, chickens, a dollar or whatever little they had to eat for lunch – the love of those people gave me everything!”
Growing up in the Cali, Colombia region of South America, Dr. Liliana Manrique fell in love with art watching her mother paint in watercolor and acrylics. Her affinity for painting soon developed into an adoration of creating, sculpting, and shaping figures into carefully constructed works of art. Dr. Manrique’s understanding of artistic quality and her ability to sculpt the face and body with artistic influences are what make her treatments so unique and the results so natural.
Liliana Manrique MD is a board-certified physician and the founder of NewEra Medical Aesthetics and Laser Center, specializing in minimally invasive aesthetic medicine at NewEra Medical Aesthetics and Laser Center in Vienna, Virginia. Best known for her European conservative and natural approach to facial rejuvenation, she has over 20 years of experience practicing these techniques in Europe, Colombia, and the United States.
Dr. Manrique has been at the forefront of aesthetic medicine, sought out by patients all over the Washington, DC metropolitan area for non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Men and women alike have flocked to her for her technique of treating patients to achieve a natural result. Many have become life-long patients because while she is extremely talented, she is also gentle, caring and genuinely interested in helping each and every patient achieve their aesthetic best.
From an early age, Dr. Manrique knew she wanted to be a doctor and she worked constantly to achieve her dream. Starting medical school at the University of Valle when she was only sixteen years of age, she graduated with honors in medicine and surgery. Directly after graduation, she opened her first women’s health and oncology practice in Valle. During this period, she also lent her time caring for underprivileged communities and people in Valle.
To reach those communities needing medical care, she would take a two hour car ride from the coastline followed by a three wheeler motorbike trek deep into the Andes Mountains. It was mostly the elders who suffered from cardiac issues, skin disorders, and other diseases, such as tuberculosis, who needed her care. However, she even took time to provide care and treatment to women who were having medical challenges and could not conceive.
Although it may have been predictable that Dr. Manrique would eventually marry her love and artful abilities, no doubt passed down from her mother, with a medical career, she is in a class all her own when it comes to serving her patients. “I am thankful everyday for another opportunity to help people feel better and be better”, she says.
While practicing in Colombia, Dr. Manrique served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Colombian Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery. As co-founder of Clinica Los Cedros, she specialized in early detection and surgery for breast and OBGYN related cancer.
