Sometimes we look at the mirror and we feel that our lips are not looking fresh and sensual anymore. It can be due to fine lines, thinning of the lips, droopy corners or gummy smile.

Thinning of the lips:

With the aging process the fat in our lips is lost as it happens in other parts of our face and body. This contributes to the formation of fine lines and thinning of the lips. Sun exposure and smoking accelerate this process. Dermal fillers restore the youthful look and improve the appearance of your lips by boosting volume, improving the structure and most critically, improving overall lip shape.

Fine lines and droopy corners of the mouth

These lines are usually called “lipstick lines” or “smoker’s lips” because of the way they radiate out from the lips into the surrounding skin. They are the result of aging, sun exposure and smoking. Perioral fractional laser lessens the appearance of these lines to create a youthful appearance by literally removing several layers of skin to stimulate collagen production resulting in a lasting improvement of skin texture and lessening of deep lines. Botox and dermal fillers helps to soften these lines.

Botox is used by Dr. Manrique to treat the depression of the corner of the mouth also known as droopy corners.

Gummy smile

A smile considered “gummy” is one that shows an excess of gingival tissue (3 mm or more) on smiling. An attractive smile is dependent on balance of the teeth, gums, and lips: the gum line follows the upper lip’s contour and the upper lip should only expose up to 3 mm of gum tissue.

Botox is injected above the smile to temporarily relax the muscles that cause the upper lip to excessively lift.

Effective Botox treatment for a gummy smile requires an injection at the intersection of three muscles involved in the smile, a triangular area called the Yonsei Point.
