What is Kybella?

KYBELLA is a prescription medication used to reduce skin fat below the chin, also known as a double chin, improving your profile and appearance. The active ingredient deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in the body, where it aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Once injected into the fat below your chin, KYBELLA destroys fat cells.

What are sessions like?

After discussing your treatment goals, Dr. Manrique will apply ice and/or a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort, then inject KYBELLA into the fatty area under your jaw line. The exact number of injections depends on the amount of fat in the treatment area. Each injection may feel like a tiny pinch, though discomfort is generally minimal.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies, based on your profile and distribution of fat, as well as how well the area responds to the initial injections. Considering these factors, Dr. Manrique will determine the best treatment plan. Kybella can always be combined with Profound SQ treatment and Profound Dermal treatment.

How often should I receive treatments?

Treatment sessions are spaced at least 1 month apart, with a maximum of 6 total sessions. Many people notice visible results within 2-4 treatments.

How long will my results last?

Once fat cells are destroyed, they do not regenerate. In other words, KYBELLA results are permanent. Once you’ve reached your desired look, there is no more need for additional injections.

Are there any side effects?

Possible side effects of KYBELLA include bruising, pain, redness, swelling, numbness or hardening in the treatment area, which typically diminish on their own. Rare complications include difficulty swallowing and nerve injury that can cause temporary facial muscle weakness or an uneven smile.

Am I a good candidate for Kybella?

You and Dr. Manrique can decide together if KYBELLA is right for you. Safety of the treatment in children under age 18 is unknown. Before your treatment, be sure to tell Dr. Manrique if you’ve had or plan to have surgery on your face, chin or neck, have had cosmetic procedures or medical conditions on these areas, or have experienced problems with bleeding or swallowing.
